100 word challenge-Hazel

I walk around the museum thinking of what I should look at next, in the corner of my eye I see this statue. It has a sign right beside and I begin to read it. This was from 1736 wow i think to myself that was a long time ago . To me it looks like men who were in a war and they are loading up a cannon and getting ready for the other country to strike? It looks really cool and looks quite crazy. I wonder what it was like living in those times. It would be a matter of life or death.

persuasive writing - Hazel

Oamaru 9400 Tuesday 18th august 2020 Dear Mum Dad, Ryan and Anna I am writing this letter, to tell you why I think you should let me and Ella build an underground tunnel leading from my house to hers. you may be wondering how this will work , but let me explain to you why it's an excellent idea! Sleepovers, no loud laughing, a break, quiet. Don't you think that sounds good? We will also fundraise and pay for it doing our favourite car washes! Firstly I often hear you guys complaining about how loud we laugh.Underground in the tunnel you won't be able to hear us. It will be so quiet. You also won't hear us going on about wanting to hangout and wanting to have sleepovers and what house it's going to be at. We can meet in the middle, have a bed there, and have sleepovers/hangout in there. It will save climbing over the fence! My rooms up high so I will have to walk out to the backyard. I'm thinking a door that sits on the ground in my backyard and when you open it up and there's stairs that lead to the middle. We will make it flat in the middle and a window up above the bed so we can watch the stars at night! So what are you going to get from this… well we will do the chores well you build it and all we need you to do is help us with a bit of the digging you could even teach us so we can do most of the work. We can do the decorating like painting and all that! It will be so much fun. In conclusion, I reckon we deserve something nice like this. We can share it with our siblings every now and again and even you and your friends. Ella also found that having a strong friendship makes you more happy so we could bond more and not be moody teenagers. wouldn't you like that? Yours sincerely Hazel

what is diabetes?

What is diabetes? Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your immune system attacks your pancreas and leaves little to no insulin or just enough to deal with some foods. Insulin is what breaks down all the sugar in the food you eat and keeps your blood sugar stable. Type 1 diabetics have little to no insulin Type 2 diabetics have enough depending on who they are. Type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes are similar in ways but different in others. Type 1 diabetics will at the start have to inject 6-7 times a day and finger prick 8-9 times a day. Type 2 diabetics depending on who they are might have to inject once or twice a day they can even take pills, but what they do is just to keep their blood sugar stable. Where as type 1 diabetics have no insulin so they are trying to keep their blood sugar stable, but they are also sorting out all the sugar in their bodies to help them alive. With diabetes there are highs and lows that happen when there is too much insulin or too little. The high is when there is too little insulin so there is not enough to break down the sugar in your blood causing your blood sugar to rise. A low is when there is too much insulin in your blood causing your numbers to drop. When you are high you would need more insulin. When you are low you would need sugar that is fast acting. So things like lollies and juice and then back it up with a muesli bar. People without diabetes their blood glucose numbers should be 4-8 where as diabetics numbers can be 2-30 ish. If you have diabetes, there are different ways of controlling it. Firstly, You have to work out the carbs. There are different amounts of carbs in different foods. If you get things out of packets the carbs should be on the packet but when it comes to fruit and starchy food without carbs on the packet you need an app. I use carbs and cals but there are a few different ones that can be used too. Secondly, we have rapid calc. Rapid calc is a different app you put in your carbs finger prick and then it should tell you how much insulin you need. Then you get your insulin pen and wind up 2 units to make sure that the pen is working. Lastly you inject how much insulin it says you need and that is how type ones do it. Type twos have to just keep their blood sugar stable so they have to keep an eye on what they eat but again depending on who they are they might have to inject or take pills. The symptoms of diabetes are, thirst, peeing alot, tiredness, feeling hungry, blurry vision, cuts, bruises taking longer to heal, weight loss (type 1), tingling pain or numbness in hands and feet (type 2). 10% of people have type 1 diabetes and 90% have type 2. And that's diabetes. bye Hazel

I asked mum for a gorilla, she replied with that's not going to happen but I bet she couldn't resist. I will walk through the door and there is going to be a big gorilla . I swing the door open and mum greats me it's in the lounge i bet u will be very happy she says. I ran to the lounge and then I saw it... It was as soft as a blanket and like the cutest thing ever. It was a joey! I scream with excitement.

The 3 step water cycle

Do you ever stop to think where your water comes from? I get my water from the tap in the kitchen but how did it get there? It is all part of this thing called the water cycle. The water cycle has 3 steps to it that just repeat over and over again first up is evaporation 85% of the water vapour in the air comes from water that evaporated from creeks or rivers or even the ocean the sun heats the water and then evaporates it and takes it up to the atmosphere. The second step is condensation. You might have condensation on your windows in the mornings or after a shower but this is a different type. This is when the atmosphere fills up with water vapour the water vapour turns into droplets of water and that is how we get rain. Finally we have rain. When the clouds get really heavy it rains and that is the 3 step water cycle. By Hazel

self isolation across the Nation

Self isolation across the Nation. I wake up at 7:30 and go and have my breakfast. I have what I have every morning 2 pieces of toast and cornflakes so my numbers are level. I then go into my room and find that half my blankets are on my floor ready to get washed. I jump over them and my wardrobe meets me on the other side. I grab my favourite glassons skirt and my grey huffer top and go and have a hot shower. As I am coming up the stairs after the shower I pull my charger out of my pump and step on all the lego.. “Ow” I scream in silence. I chuck my clothes on and chuck my hair up in a messy high pony. I then go and watch some tv to keep me from being bored. I have spicy noodles for lunch and organise to meet Ella (my best friend and neighbour) to meet at the fence with a deck chair in five. I run into the garage, grab a deck chair and run onto the grass that meets her house. I sit there for like 2 seconds before she comes running out of her house. Don't worry we sat on the opposite side of the fence 2 meters apart like we were told. For the rest of the afternoon we sat there talking and playing music. Our sisters and my brother decided they would join us so we all did some truth or dares. And that was one best day I have had in self isolation so far anyway. By Hazel

where I am from

where I am from. I'm from living in Weston, from bike rides to the shop to get my favourite lollies. I am from miniball every Tuesday and basketball every Wednesday. I'm from hot oozy marshmallows between melting chocolate thins, the smell of the fire burning the sticks. Cuddled up after on the squeaky small stretchers thinking about the day ahead. I am from cousin days every holiday, from biking around and hot chips afterwards. From late nights telling stories. I'm from every night the cat and dog on my bed, from furry hairy blankets and them being right in my face. I am from playing board games at night with my family. I am from constant carb counting and regularly injections. I'm from listening to my favourite songs over and over again. I am from being neighbours with my best friend, from fun times with them and making lots of good memories. By Hazel
